The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority was established in January 1991 under the UP Industrial Area Development Act, 1976. The GNIDA functions under the control of Government of Uttar Pradesh. The main functions of GNIADA are to provide a quality urban environment to attract economic activities in Greater Noida.

GNIDA acquires vast tracts of land for the purpose of carrying out economic activities. However, the organization holds vast tracts of land at prime locations in Greater Noida which is lying unused. The total area of unused land held by GNIDA is 73 acres (or 55 football fields). The total value of these unused land parcels is ₹ 149 crore [1].

These unused parcels of land are located at prime locations and this restricts the urban expansion and development to take place. These valuable parcels of land are been locked by the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority.

If these unused parcels of land are freed-up from the control of GNIDA then it can put to many other productive purposes which can contribute to the economic development of Greater Noida.
